little 5-title update (Moonrat)

Hi Guys,

I've finished five books over the last two weeks, because I'm still all motivated by the list and reading like a maniac. Also because I chose some relatively easy ones to start with. I'm linking to my BookBook reviews.

Daphne DuMaurier, Rebecca
Alice Mattison, The Book Borrower
T.S. Eliot, The Waste Land
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
Curtis Sittenfeld, American Wife

Also, I made an awesome red/read checklist on my blog, which is yet another incentive to finish books. Nyuk nyuk. Apparently I'm a list-making personality type.

You guys have thoughts on any of these?

5? Oh, I'm sorry -- is this the abridged-editions fill in the gaps blog? That's what I may need soon in order to keep up! (Just kidding, Moonie. I know you have that wonderful public transport "reading-friendly" commute.)

I have finished three but then again, I started in January, way ahead of many of you!!!

I haven't finished one yet! Mind you, it is Moby Dick so I guess that counts for something right?

I've only finished one! And that was a shorty, The Awakening!

Also, those who were interested in editing their original list posts to strikethrough a book you've read, I'm going to say how over on MoonRat's original list.

hello!! i picked short, quick ones!! one of these was READ ALOUD TO ME!!! i just needed to boost my ego before starting a serious book like, erm, anna karenina, the golden notebook, or middlemarch. plus i've done NOTHING but read since i started this; eventually my eyes wll fall out. also, may i remind you people i've had a WEEK on you because i'd already started back when i announced it?!

but if you want to get all competitive...

Moonie-

You're the only reason I read Macbeth today. I had to cross something off my list.

I'm still trying to get through Black Order by Rollins (just started Saturday and I'm almost done) and now I'm wishing I had that on my list instead of his other two just so I could have something else to cross off...lol.

Five already, good job! I'm finishing #1 tonight.

I really liked Rebecca -- not everyone in my book group could get through it. It's a product of its time, not modern/progressive at all -- but I don't blame it for being of its time.

The slow and somehow simultaneously overblown nature of the story mirrored my idea/mental image of Manderlay itself.

I loved the Hitchcock movie, but also really liked the more recent Masterpiece Theater version with Diana Rigg as Mrs. Danvers! Charles Dance played Maxim, and was at his most dreamy.
