Hi fellow insane readers,
Unaffiliated personages I know are trying to put together a NYC-area
Gravity's Rainbow support reading group starting in August. I'm undecided at the moment--whether I'll be ready for another doozy that soon after
Middlemarch--but this would be a live meet-up situation with cupcakes, wine, or dumplings to keep them strong.
Any thoughts? Is anyone here even in the NYC area?

Interesting. I'd be in if I lived in NYC. THE MILLIONS ran a post today re google squared, and this came up as best novel. So go for it! Maybe we can get another GRAVITY group here - after a month or so of recovering from MIDDLEMAY! Peace, Linda
If only I lived in NYC and not Melbourne (especially now that it's stupidly cold and wintery)
Cupcakes will get me involved in anything =D
I had thought of Pynchon as an acceptable gap, but I do live in NYC (BK, actually) and am willing to give it a shot. The library has the book, after all, so what is there to lose - other than a few brain cells?
Come on guys, Pynchon is great! Gravity's Rainbow is the sort of book that beats up your brain in all the right ways. It's too bad I live on the opposite side of the continent, 'cause it'd be fun to give it another read-through in a group setting.
Ooh, I'm in! Sounds like a good book. C'mon, Moonie, you know you'll do it when there are snacks and alcohol involved.
Let us know when the start date is decided and who we should contact to join up. I'm moving to NYC in mid-August, so I should be there in time to participate even if I miss the first meeting or two.
awesome!! goedi, jolie, i'm sure we can make this fun. i'll propose starting mid-august (i think it's best to start out strongest, right?).
Yes, I am very much in! That should give me enough time to finish all my BEA reading first...

yay! oh my god, i'm so excited.
i already bought my copy; i'll go and flag it with stickies tonight! and put up a proposal for breakdown/length. if anyone has any ideas let me know!
I propose beginning at the top left hand corner of the first page and moving to the right and then down and when we run out of space on one page to progress to the next where we begin the process over.
Sound good?
Hmm, Goedi--interesting. Revolutionary! Surprising. But perhaps appropriate.
