Stone Diaries, by Carol Shields

Just finished this one (book 11 for me). I put up a (pretty glancing) review on thebookbook.

I can't really make up my mind about whether I liked this one or not. I think the take-home is that I didn't really enjoy reading it, but I'm glad that I've read it now that I'm done.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hi!
I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list. I checked out your review, it does sound interesting. Have a great evening.

You know what I've been thinking about all day, ever since posting my review? That THE STONE DIARIES was a really innovative composition, and a real departure from the kinds of books most women feel pressured to publish in order to appeal to what is conceived of as the reading public. While more innovation is tolerated/encouraged of male writers, it's not often that a really "different" book by a female writer breaks out.

I think having this thought process has made me respect the book even more.

I still say it was hard slogging at times, but there are some real on-the-nose points.

So if it's on your list... I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts!
